On the surface, the murder of a 61-year-old Black woman by an 81-year-old white man because she “trespassed” on his property is just another unfortunate racially motivated murder in America that’s all too common where guns and hatred are entirely too rampant. But, if you search a little deeper, it becomes evident that this is not your everyday, or bimonthly (at least what makes the headlines), occurrence of this sad narrative. No, this unfortunate incident involves paranoia, scam phone calls, demands for money, and sending an innocent woman who was only trying to do her job like a lamb to the slaughter. And, of course, it involves, at least for the murderer, the belief that a Black life didn’t matter that much, and that it was his right to snuff one, because he claims he felt threatened. The most sinister and evil aspect is that it was all probably “a prank” set up by a still untraced caller. What is wrong with people?

On March 25, 81-year-old William Brock got a call at his South Charleston, Ohio, home. A male voice on the other end told him that one of his relatives was in jail and a large sum of money was required for his release.

According to The Guardian,

On 25 March, Brock received a scam call from a man who falsely identified himself as an officer at the local courthouse.
