Stop Feigning Surprise About the British Monarchy’s Bigotry

Buckingham Palace has been controlling the narrative for centuries — shunning Meghan Markle is just the latest

The Oprah interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has been storming media outlets since airing earlier this month. In their first interview since departing the royal family, the former duke and duchess of Sussex divulged the various ways they saw that “The Firm” failed to protect them or even directly caused them to be put in harm’s way — from driving Markle into suicidal ideations to “concerned” remarks relating to the hue of baby Archie’s skin to stripping the new family of titles and security detail.

People around the globe got an earful of just how horrifying, racist, bigoted, and deceitful the British monarchy is — but they should have known this already.

This “exposé,” as it is being called, should not be that shocking; the royal family being fundamentally problematic is not a new concept. This is the same monarchy that has yet to condemn Prince Andrew, a friend and alleged co-conspirator to admitted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
