A phone call for the ages
The first I heard of the now famous phone call where 44,000 Black women were on the line together talking about the future and the possibly presidency of Kamala Harris was late on Sunday afternoon. A law school professor I know posted. This is her post:
It was pretty amazing to see that. President Joe Biden announced he was not going to seek re-election. He endorsed Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States. Almost immediately, social media went electric. People understood what was at stake. I personally knew not what to think. I figured if Biden wasn’t running again, step aside and let VP Harris take over. But, whatever. It was on regardless. The grassroots of America got to work.
The indomitable spirit and energy and love Black women have for one another and for one of their own blasted off like a rocket. They immediately embraced the task at hand and began organizing furiously.
They used modern technology: a Zoom phone calls. They used the resources they had at their disposal: word of mouth, text messages, emails, social media posts, etc. etc., and soon the call…
