I want your answer to the question used as the subtitle of this article, “How important to you is ending racism?” to determine whether you simply view this article or you actually read this article.

If ending racism is not that important to you, that’s fine. Simply admit that to yourself and stop reading. If, however, ending racism is important to you, I encourage you to read on.

Four simple steps

Before addressing the goal of ending racism, allow me to share four simple steps when addressing any goal.

  1. Identify the goal (e.g., help reduce and/or eliminate racial injustice in the world)
  2. Identify why the goal is important to you (e.g., because I believe all people, regardless of race, should be allowed to live life to their fullest potential)
  3. Identify how important achieving the goal is to you and how much you're willing to do to achieve the goal.
  4. Begin the process (realizing that goals are not achieved instantly) of working toward that goal, and keep reminding yourself of point number three when you start feeling frustrated at how long the process is taking.

With these four steps in mind, let’s now look at why I say, “Ending racism is simple. It’s just not easy.”

Ending racism requires action. There is no neutral position

Assuming you’ve already done steps 1 and 2 above, I’m going to move directly to step three.

I’m going to do my best to avoid partisan demagoguery in this article because I don’t really care who or what you are. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican. I don’t care if you’re conservative or liberal. I don’t care if you’re a capitalist or a socialist. I don’t care if you consider yourself “woke” or anti-woke. I don’t even care if you consider yourself to be “not racist.” The only thing I care about is your actions.

When it comes to ending racism, the only thing that matters is your actions, not your intentions (If not now, please read this link later).
