Former 49ers Running Back Marcus Lattimore: ‘George Floyd Is Me’

For decades, professional athletes have been encouraged to “shut up and dribble,” as Laura Ingraham said about NBA great LeBron James when he publicly spoke out on police brutality.

Luckily for us, that is not the case.

Former NFL running back Marcus Lattimore penned “Comfortable Illusion” on Medium. His poem gets to the heart of how many Americans view Black athletes and the fragile line that separates them from being gunned down like George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other Black men, simply for existing.
