The white supremacists have come for another Black person’s head

The first African-American President of Harvard University, Dr. Claudine Gay, is under siege. While I don’t care much for Harvard University, it is my hope that Dr. Gay holds the line and does not resign. After all, she hasn’t said or done anything that disqualifies her from holding the position. Those calling for her resignation, an effort to put her head on a stick, are nothing more than desperate bigots committed to hatred and division. Let’s unpack this.

Conservative activists like Christopher Rufo are attacking Gay under the guise of fighting antisemitism, a roundabout way of referencing the struggle between Israel and Palestine. The right-wing Manhattan Insitute and Free Beacon have joined in their cause to tarnish Gay’s reputation. While President Gay testified before Congress, defending academic freedom and students’ right to free speech, critics weren’t satisfied. Indeed, after her testimony, the MAGA crowd, many of whom endorse racist ideologies, has only escalated their mud-slinging.
