Call out anti-Jewish hate, but let’s be fair
There’s no denying that in the wake of Hamas’s brutal massacres and rape, and Israel’s aggressive military action to wipe out Hamas, Jewish students at many of our college campuses don’t feel safe.
They’ve been intimidated. Harassed. Some have been spit on. Blocked from attending class. Physically threatened. Students have had to lock themselves in buildings. Menorahs and Jewish institutions vandalized.
The list of anti-Jewish activity on American college campuses is long and disturbing.
All universities, Ivy League included, must address this problem. No student should ever be left to feel unsafe.
When I was in college many moons ago and Holocaust deniers spoke on campus, the university put its foot down. When a friend received a bomb threat for expressing views supportive of Israel back then, the university went into action. When a white fraternity painted a giant red swastika on the front of our Jewish fraternity house, the university stepped in.
Administrators unequivocally stood by the safety and dignity of their Jewish students.
