Even early in the morning, racism is up and ready to take on the day.
It was a crisp Friday morning, with touches of sun breaking through the clouds. It was a perfect day to hit the beach and spend time with friends. As a teen, activities such as venturing off to any place that wasn’t your home or school were experiences many lived for. No parental intrusion or authority figures kept you from living your life; just plain summer fun trying to mentally distance yourself from responsibility.
Although I have never been a beach person, growing up in the Northeast, you couldn’t help but be caught up in the beach fever everyone had during the summer months. It was par for the course, and being young and, admittedly, a bit pliable, I often felt the pressure to adjust to my immediate environment, even if that meant picking sand out of my nether regions throughout the day.
A beach to remember
