Jacob Blake Is Handcuffed To His Hospital Bed
Shot in the back and paralyzed, so why the cuffs?
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, police gunshot victim Jacob Blake is both paralyzed from the waist down and handcuffed to his hospital bed. Given that Blake is paralyzed and in critical condition, his father asks the question: Why is he chained to the bed?
I have the same question, as Blake surely is not a flight risk given that he is fighting for his life even as Kenosha, Wisconsin burns and professional athletes pay tribute to the father of several young children.
“I hate it that he was laying in that bed with the handcuff onto the bed,” his father, also named Jacob Blake, told Sun-Times reporter Clare Procter on Thursday. “He can’t go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed…?”
Sadly, police often do this to people who are hospitalized and suspected of a crime. One sheriff in Arizona does this to pregnant women while they are in labor to have a baby. It’s heartless and cold. And unnecessary.
