Jennifer King is attaining a new position with the Washington Football Team, as a full-time offensive assistant, marking a historic moment for the NFL. As Jelani Scott reports for NFL.com, “King will become the first full-time African-American female coach in NFL history.”

For most of the football league’s history, influential women have largely been behind the scenes: owners, executives, and brand strategists. King joins a handful of other women, however, who are playing more visible roles in the organization. Just last September, she made history when she was one of three women who were on the gridiron in an official capacity, an unprecedented moment for the NFL.

Momentum is a blog that captures and reflects the moment we find ourselves in, one where rampant anti-Black racism is leading to violence, trauma, protest, reflection, sorrow, and more. Momentum doesn’t look away when the news cycle shifts.
