Meghan Markle Helped Prince Harry Understand Unconscious Bias
The couple continues to speak out about race and unfair scrutiny
Our favorite IRL princess Meghan Markle continues to make waves of change, especially when it comes to those closest to her. Her husband, Prince Harry, says she opened his eyes to the unconscious bias he never paid attention to prior.
In a recent interview with GQ, he says that the cruel amount of racism and scrutiny Meghan endured from the British press and the royal family helped him realize his privilege and responsibility to create a more equal society.
“You can’t really point fingers, especially when it comes to unconscious bias,” Harry explained. “But once you realize or you feel a little bit uncomfortable, then the onus is on you to go out and educate yourself, because ignorance is no longer an excuse. And unconscious bias, from my understanding, having the upbringing and the education that I had, I had no idea what it was. I had no idea it existed. And then, sad as it is to say, it took me many, many years to realize it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife’s shoes.”
