A message to my people

America’s 2020 racial reckoning unpacked our destructive history with a more clear eye view. In these contemporary times and at the expense of our bodies, we were painfully reminded of the constant attack on Black and that racism was only playing dead. One pandemic undoubtedly brought on the realization of another. As far as I’m concerned, anything less than a change from this racial reckoning is an unequivocal injustice.
However, there’s apparently a new racial epidemic emerging.
And evidently, we are to blame.
Race relations have been the subject of more controversial widespread coverage for the past few weeks. From the public outrage over Haitian migrant treatment to the POC community’s reaction over Gabby Petito’s disappearance to the Black and unvaccinated criticism, etc., race discourse is unpacking itself in a more complex manner; — leaving a problematic consensus that led me in writing this message.
An old claim has made new strides in challenging the perceptions of racialized victimization. Instead of blatantly asserting validity in reverse racism, this one says White people are now the new victims of racism.
And apparently, we’ve got some explaining to do...
“Whites believe they have been replaced by Blacks as the primary victims of racial discrimination in contemporary America. According to most Whites, anti-white racism has increased and has become a bigger problem than anti-Black racism.” — Tufts Associate Professor of Psychology Samuel Sommers, PhD, coauthor of the study that appears in Perspectives on Psychological Science.
In a recent study from Harvard Business School, researchers asked 208 Blacks and 209 Whites in a nation-wide sample to indicate the level of discrimination they felt toward the other race within the last 50 years, on a scale of 1 to 10; — with 1 being “not at all” and 10 being “very much.”
