Flickers of Hope and Exhaustion
Oakland-based photographer and writer Brandon Ruffin poetically captures the tug-of-war Black people experience when shuffling between moments of exhaustion and “flickers of hope.” It’s a constant dance, a phrase used a lot to describe being Black in America. The U.S. is a country Ruffin describes as “full of opinions diametrically opposed to my freedom to live.”
