I’ve been a fan of Bachelor Nation since Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette in 2012. Though for years, none of The Bachelorette leads looked like me — and the women who did look like me went home roseless earlier in the seasons — I still watched and unabashedly rooted for fairytale endings.
It wasn’t until Tayshia Adams brought Colton Underwood home to meet her family during the show’s 2019 season that I could see a setup that looked exactly like my life. Her Black dad grilled Colton on his intentions, and her Mexican mom listened to her daughter’s hopes for a romantic showstopper of a proposal.
Adams is currently the lead on this season of The Bachelorette, and she has quickly become one of the most popular stars in Bachelor Nation. She cuts to the chase, she has fun, and she presses the men to be honest on this journey with her; it’s clear that Adams is looking for the real thing.
