The Convenience and Irony of the White Cry for Nonviolence

There’s a particular irony in White people who stand in judgment of protestors, the Black Lives Matter movement, and “looters” considering the history America has around violence and the pillaging of things that didn’t rightfully belong to them. As anti-racism educator Tim Wise points out, we celebrate violence in the context of revolutionaries on the Fourth of July and fetishize it via statues of war heroes, but when it’s about Black folks, there’s a cry for peace. How convenient?
