Let’s be honest: Black athletes have never just sat back and said nothing and done nothing when it came to injustice. There is a long line of athletes who have always spoken up, even when it hurt their careers. And the college ballers are right there with them. After all, the most elite of them are the next generation of superstars, millionaires, and power brokers.

The New York Times looked at some of the power wielded by college athletes who are aware of the immense capital they bring to their respective schools. After all, it is the schools that benefit from everything from hoodie sales to alma mater umbrellas marked with the mascot of any number of uber-popular NCAA championship teams. Some players are embracing their social platforms and popularity to fight for a more just future. And some schools are falling short, the New York Times reports.
