We are all in this together. It’s true. But some people think oppression doesn’t apply to them, and then boom: It does. Writer Mayeen Malik writes a strong opinion piece for ZORA magazine about the responsibility that Asian Americans have in fighting anti-Black racism. She mentions the Asian American officer who stood by when George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis a few weeks ago.

Specifically, Malik says this: “Until I watched the raw footage of the horrifying incident, I wasn’t aware that an Asian police officer stood by for nearly 10 minutes as Floyd slowly lost his life.”

Malik offers a call to action for Asians and Asian Americans who are bearing witness to this time.

Momentum is a blog that captures and reflects the moment we find ourselves in, one where rampant anti-Black racism is leading to violence, trauma, protest, reflection, sorrow, and more. Momentum doesn’t look away when the news cycle shifts.
