We Should Watch the Tyre Nichols Video and Others Like It

I am a member of a writer’s collective called WEOC (Writers and Editors of Color pronounced WOKE).

Allison Wiltz is the founder and there are great members like Savannah Worley, Nada Chehade, Obinna Morton, KSHernandez, and many, many others.

Yesterday we had a Twitter Space(s) about plagiarism that segued into the murder of Tyre Nichols.

If you didn’t know, many Black people refused to watch the murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five police officers that was broadcast live on network television Friday evening.

This is a common sentiment amongst Black people. Some even call it trauma porn.

They’re right that these videos have never been circulated with a white person being murdered — like they were circulated with George Floyd, Jayland Walker, or Ahmaud Arbery — but then again, white people typically aren’t murdered in this way.
