Where’s That Support VC Firms Promised Black Founders?
Fitness app founder Nerissa Zhang was excited to hear that venture capitalist funds were finally committing to open up their wallets in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and fund projects developed by Black founders. Zhang had been banging on the proverbial door to get support for her app and assumed that this recent public commitment to spreading the wealth — wealth typically distributed among a small group of White men that in turn tend to support people who look like them — would result in, at the very least, some calls and interest in her company. She was wrong.
