The Proud Boys are a racist, white nationalist, and misogynist group that has woven violence into its identity. And last night during a national presidential debate, Trump gave them marching orders.

You can read more about the group here, in this post titled “Who Are The Proud Boys?”

It’s important to know who these people are, as they have showed up at protests with the intent to cause violence. But be careful what you share, and how you amplify the groups’ message. These extremist organizations thrive on mainstream attention and social virality, as it perversely normalizes and amplifies their racist and sexist talking points.

Jane Lytvynenko, a disinformation reporter at BuzzFeed, suggests redacting names and identifying information out of any screenshots you share of Proud Boy content, and to also avoid linking to any that content or including names of Proud Boy members.

Momentum is a blog that captures and reflects the moment we find ourselves in, one where rampant anti-Black racism is leading to violence, trauma, protest, reflection, sorrow, and more. Momentum doesn’t look away when the news cycle shifts.
