Why Some Black People Don’t Trust The Church
Greed, lies, and abuse have taken a toll on us since slavery, and it’s past time we get back to the roots of The Black Church
My mama gonna slap the fire out me if she reads this one. As a Baptist and Pentecostal Christian, I grew up in the spare the rod-belt-shoe-flyswatter-switch-ruler-whatever is in arms reach, spoil-the-child era. I can take those shots from the Queen. So, before I take a tongue-lashing and five fingers across the face from my dear, sold-out-for-Christ mother, let me first state that I do not speak on the good theologians out there. As a Christian myself, something must be said, and it needed to be said, at least by me, for a long time now. As someone with a strong Christian foundation who grew up in it no less than three days a week, I can’t let my current feelings on the state of Christianity and a lot of religion overall slide past my mental reservation. First, it’s the humiliation of another black man by Pastor Mike Todd that still has me heated, and now this. I marinated on the below tweet and instance of the pastor below for quite some time now.
