Yet another reason to defund the police

Policing in the United Kingdom is dead.

Everyday, we are inundated with instances of the profound inadequacies of those sworn to protect us.

A number of incidents in the past year have helped crystallize the view that policing in the twenty-first century would seriously have to be radically imagined, if we are to have a much safer society.

There was Wayne Couzens, a serving police officer, who abducted a young lady — Sarah Everard — under the guise of the breaking the law during Covid lockdown, only to rape and kill her.

People will remember the heavy handedness of the officers at the wake held in memory of the young female victim. The policemen(almost exclusively men) went out of their way to attack the women commemorating the live of Sarah Everard.

What was also more jarring was the revelation that vast numbers of serving officers had come to support Wayne Couzens at his murder trial, last year.

With this information, it came as no surprise, when it emerged earlier this year that a great number of policemen at the Charing cross police station were found to have distributed WhatsApp messages with disturbing…
